Athletics Canada names 17 athletes to Pan American Games team

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

OTTAWA - Athletics Canada announced today a team of 17 athletes who will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico for the staging of the 2011 Pan American Games.  Athletics at the Pan American Games will comprise of almost 700 athletes competing at Telmax Stadium October 23 to 29.

“The Pan American Games are an integral part of our national team program, however this year due to scheduling it is very difficult to send all of our best athletes,” explains Head Coach Les Gramantik. “The 2011 Pan American Games still represent an important stepping stone for many who have been selected to prove their abilities by competing and winning internationally.”

Headlining Canada’s athletics entry is defending Pan American Games champion Dylan Armstrong from Kamloops, B.C.  Armstrong’s 2011 season has been one for the ages; his accomplishments include a silver medal at the World Championships, he is the current World Leader and leads the IAAF Diamond Race in the shot put.
